What does the Eco Approved Badge Mean, and why did I get offered it?

Because our shopping database works much like a search engine, there's no doubt that some of the products you'll find are "greener" than others. We want to make sure that your green shopping experience leads you to products and sites that make a genuine difference for the environment, so we've created the "Sustainablog Approved" label. We give this to products if they meet at least one of the following qualifications:

  1. They've received certification for environmentally-preferable attributes from a reputable third party, such as ENERGY STAR, Green Seal, WaterSense, and the Forest Stewardship Council.
  2. They're manufactured by a company with a documented and distinguished record of environmental consciousness.
  3. They're regularly used by the people at Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage (who don't let much get by them in terms of sustainability).

If you an approved product that you don't think merits this designation, or if you think we've missed a particularly green item that deserves recognition, please let us know.

Additionally, the logo is used to designate 3rd party websites we are excited about working with, due to their exemplary dedication to sustainability?

Why would I want an Eco Approved Badge?

  1. It is a way to show your users that you are recognized for your efforts towards sustainability by  a leading online green content publisher.
  2. Conversion tests have shown badges like this to increase user confidence and conversion rates.
  3. You will be helping a  green business with dedicated eco business practices that  donates a large percentage of profits to charities like Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage

More Info on the Conversion Increase

A trust badge is a graphical emblem on your site meant to put your customers at ease and convey confidence in making a purchase. Common trust emblems tend to involve virus checking and secure checkout, but increasingly people are seeing that conveying "social trust" and recognition is great for business.

In the example below, you can see a concrete instance of a Danish company adding a social trust emblem (in this case it was the Danish
E-mark). Adding this
led to a 32 % increase in conversions.

A test of a socially conscious badge

What was the result?

Yep. A 32% increase in conversion with the addition of a socially conscious E-Mark badge.
